Last Sunday, the Conseil québécois de la musique (CQM) hosted the annual Prix Opus Gala, a celebration of the rich musical culture of Quebec and a gathering of artists, concert presenters, cultural workers, and supporters of the arts. It was a touching evening among friends and colleagues. collectif9 is honoured to have received two prizes: Interprète de l’année (Performer of the Year) and Directeur artistique de l’année (Artistic Director of the Year). There are many emotions that these recognitions bring - to put it simply, we feel the support of our peers, friends, colleagues, and the impact of this support will guide our efforts to continue to contribute to the cultural fabric of Québec in the years to come. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! In light of these awards, Thibault would like to address you all directly.
A message from our Artistic Director, Thibault Bertin-Maghit
What an honour to receive these two awards at the Opus Gala last Sunday. After 13 years of existence, this recognition from Quebec’s musical community touches us deeply and, at a time when the current political climate has us questioning the very essence of our mission, this mark of confidence gives us new fresh momentum to continue to serve and inspire our community.
These two awards would never have materialized without the dedicated involvement of many people. I have to start by mentioning Andrea Stewart, a true force behind the project, who has worked tirelessly with me from the ideation to the realization of everything we have accomplished until now. I am certainly thinking of all the musicians of the group, as well as those who join us on occasion, who embody and give life to each of our productions. I am grateful to our board of directors who faithfully support us through thick and thin. I would like to recognize the work of Barbara Scales, who was by our side for more than 10 years as our artistic agent, and who allowed our work to radiate across 3 continents. I could never forget all of our collaborators who have contributed their talents and taken us further than we would have ever been without them. I am thankful to all of our funding and presenting partners who constantly help us reach new ears.
And finally, a sincere thank you to all of you who follow us, encourage us, applaud us, let us into your lives, and share the moments of happiness, reflection, contemplation, and discovery that we strive to bring to life with all of our love and humanity.
