NEW ALBUM: VAGUES ET OMBRES
to be released on May 27, 2022
We asked ourselves: could we, as nine string players, perform Claude Debussy’s La Mer and do it justice? In a musical style where timbre and colour are paramount, attempting to interpret this iconic work seemed outrageous; however, we do love a challenge.
To La Mer, we add more music by Debussy, and a new work by Luna Pearl Woolf completes the programme of this album: Contact is ‘a sonic view into the underwater world of beluga whales in the St. Lawrence Estuary’.
The single from this album is out now:
Vagues et ombres is available for pre-order within Canada on Bandcamp, and at select retailers outside of Canada. The album will also be available in the immersive Dolby Atmos surround sound on Apple Music and iTunes.
NO TIME FOR CHAMBER MUSIC
released on September 24, 2021
Exploring extreme dualities, No Time for Chamber Music satirically magnifies the play between opposing forces - (wo)man and nature, life and death, dark and light, frivolous and serious - with glimmering folk dances and allusions to the stillness of nature. In this album, we delve into rich and complex musical textures in intimate arrangements of works by Gustav Mahler.
released on February 19, 2016
In each piece, collectif9 explores colours that push at the edges of respectability ... a solid debut from an ensemble that has the potential to go very far indeed.
